I got it right

We didn’t deserve to move up. We played like garbage against a 2-4 Arkansas team. We’re just not the best one loss team this year and it’s going to bite us when it comes to the playoff committee

Admittedly - no. I had to conduct a wedding yesterday.

Arkansas is not garbage. We expected to destroy them because they were like 2-5 or something, but they have been quite competitive in games. LSU needed a last second field goal to win. Ole Miss had a tough game with them. Their worst loss seems to be to the same A&M team we beat last weekend.

Arky is better than their record show.

Nope, win and we're in. It's very simple, and very difficult.

It's nearly impossible anyone will have a better 1-loss resume than us if we have wins against Ole Miss, TAMU, Tennessee, Kentucky, LSU, and UGA.

The only scenario this may not work is if you get:
- undefeated ACC champ
- undefeated Big Ten champ
- undefeated Oklahoma or 1-loss Texas beating Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game
- 1 loss Oregon beating Washington in the Pac 12 title game

This is a *really* unlikely scenario, and even then we may well get in over Oregon.

Cole Cubelic’s weekly ‘take’
quote:

ALABAMA: Little sloppy. But you take the win. QB started well then faded. Tough sledding with the pressure. Like how 2 totes it. OL just ugly. Pass set fundamentals just get thrown out. Snaps when QB isn't ready. Need to get past thinking it's cool to carry hands low all the time IMO. Forces them to punch with lower body & get off balance. Schemed some guys open. Feels like they are just becoming a shot play offense. Did have the power read going tho. Not sure why they left run game late. Middle of OL good to 2nd level. Not enough from bonus bigs in run game. More drops. 17 diagnosed well. 91 showed up. 41 solid. 32 good. Showed some some new looks. 3 & 6 solid. 34 made a few nice plays!

quote:

ARKANSAS: Fought their tails off! 40 was dominant. 28 excellent again, seeing things faster. Love watching him play! Like how secondary isn't scared to play the run. Got caught on a few stunts but had to have them in. The busts on play action were killers. Mis fit gap runs a little. LBs have to get off blocks. 50 disrupted some. Not enough push in run game. Tried more Q runs. 8 is gonna be a player! 7 just gives them a little more ability to squeeze thru things. QB is tough. Hung in & made some good throws. Feet got a little active. Too much pressure.

This means nothing when not adjusted for strength of schedule/opponent averages. Compare our schedule to Michigan's so far. It's apples to oranges.

Re-watched the game (Arkansas). Seems like Arkansas's QB made some plays running the ball and escaping that one sack during the stretch where they scored two touchdowns. Makes me wonder why the QB didn't do that all game. Maybe they found some different plays to run or something like that which worked for a while.

Also, the bad play started later in the game than I remembered it watching it the first time. It really started close to the end of the third quarter. Then at the end Alabama went back to good offense and defense and time ran out.

It was odd how Alabama was able to run the ball for that stretch in the third quarter and then went back to being stuffed on every run. Did Arkansas change how they were playing defense?

I always wonder if it is as simple as "they took their foot off the gas" or if it is more complicated X's and O'x chess match kind of things. I'm just a fan, not a former player/coach so I only know what I see on TV.

We’re not jumping a one loss Oklahoma, Ohio State, or Oregon. Oregon has a backloaded schedule and they’ve been far more dominant than us. The SEC also took a massive hit in OOC this year.

We’re basically the third or fourth man out depending on how the dominoes fall. I think there’s going to be a large surprise when the committee doesn’t give us a benefit of the doubt bump like in prior years. We’re a good defensive team but our offense is abysmal

No we're not. If we win out and beat an undefeated UGA in the SEC Championship we're in. Because as long as UGA doesn't lose they'll be #1 if we beat them. They're not leaving out a one loss conference champion who just beat the #1 team.

I didnt want to start a new thread, but we need to find a new punt returner.

Who are the best options? Law, Hale, Bond, Prentice?

Koolaid just aint got it this year. Plus i'd rather him just focus on covering some of these top WRs we are gonna face.

Very difficult yes.

Undefeated ACC Champ in unless possibly it is UNC that wins
Undefeated Bg10 Champ in
Undefeated PAC12 Champ in
Undefeated OU or a 1 loss Texas B12 Champ in

FSU and UNC on a collision course to both be undefeated playing for the ACC Championship. If UNC remains behind us in the poll and we beat UGA in Atlanta that might be the only scenario for us.

If one of the big 3 in the BG10 east goes undefeated and wins the B10 champ they are in. We need them to knock each other for any help from them.

Washington wins out they are in but they have a tough remaining schedule and also probably going to have to play Oregon again in the PAC 12 championship game. I have my doubts anyone in the PAC12 finishes undefeated. Need someone other than Washington to win the PAC12.

BIG 12 no help here if either OU or Texas wins out.

I do feel we can win the west but will need to keep improving to beat UGA.

Yeah idk I think there’s going to be multiple upsets between now and time for the top 4

I just don’t see the other 4 P5 conferences spitting out an undefeated team in each

That is good for them but that LSU win for them wouldn't look so good if they end the season with 3 or 4 losses

Our Ole Miss and Georgia wins (if we got to 12-1) would look amazing though.

Especially that Ole Miss win considering they whipped a good Tulane team which will most likely end up a top 15 team.

Every year there’s a bunch of speculation about what would happen if multiple conferences have undefeated champions, and every year things sort themselves out. Michigan/PSU/OSU will sort itself out. FSU and UNC will both drop an unexpected game somewhere. The PAC-12 is going to get sorted. Oklahoma will absolutely drop a head scratcher, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Texas loses another.

The SEC will get its champion in. Whether we can be that champion is another story, though.

That would have been true a few years ago, but the committee proved last year that they want Bama to die off - putting TCU ahead of us was all politics. The AP poll yesterday still has Oregon ranked ahead of us and UNC jumped us. Last year Heather Dinich and Finebaum actively campaigned against us getting in the playoff, and this year the media wants two Pac12 teams in the playoffs. The 12 team playoff can't get here soon enough because the narrative of the Bama hating media want Saban and Bama to fade away.
