It seems to me that last year's personnel was superior to this year's. The biggest difference is at playcaller.

Obviously Anderson is a big loss, but luckily we have a great replacement in Turner, as well as Braswell.

I think that our Dline will better.

Didn't lose much at CB, with some really good guys returning.

Lost a lot at Safety, but I think that Downs is the real deal, and will hit the ground running. Also other promising young talent, and transfers at this position.

I don't think that there is any doubt that ILB will be better.

but like you said, the biggest thing is who is coaching them.

Getting Eboigbe back should help significantly against the run assuming he is back to 100%. His loss was huge and went under the radar last year. He was probably the most experienced DL we had.

I love both. They were just a bit of an odd fit. BoB and Milroe would take all of the worst aspects of that and multiply them

To me the most important thing with an OC is being able to create an offense around what you've got. Kiffin was the best at that. Daboll did a good job with a young QB that hadn't developed as a passer and created an offense around that. The problem is the offense needed a guy who could at least scare the defense passing whereas Hurts at that point was just scanning half the field and running for a short gain or throwing it out of bounds.

BoB and Milroe as a full time starter would have been a disaster.

The secondary is a bit worrisome, especially with teams playing 4-5 wide more often. It's great to have a guy like Kool Aid, but he can only stop one guy and the safeties are going to have to step up.

But, on the other hand, a competent DC won't have a safety on Jalin Hyatt over and over and over and over.

The secondary is the least worrisome thing on this team.

Secondary is loaded right now.

Caleb Downs will be a better safety than we’ve had in a while.

Yep, secondary is literally the last thing on my mind. They will be elite by week 3-4 once everyone settles into their role.

There's nothing wrong with trying to bracket Hyatt with a safety. The issue arises when the safety doesn't get deep enough to form the "bracket."

There were multiple times it was just a safety on Hyatt, there was no double team.

Okay, it has been a while since I watched the game. I know Hyatt was busting bracket coverage quite a bit, but maybe the bracket coverage was the adjustment Pete made after a single safety was getting burned.

How did we not even redirect Hyatt on his routes at all?

Alabama is loaded on the back end of the defense. Kool Aid is who he is. I fully believe that Amos will start opposite of him. He and Key were major additions. The emergence of Devonta Smith at safety is huge. Caleb Downs is going to be a star. Arnold will only be better with more experience.

Tenn put him in the slot and/or off the LOS and we never got a bump on him on any of his TDs. Here's a 2min highlight video if you can stomach it, but it's infuriating that we let Hyatt have these insane free releases (and never put a CB on him).

Does anyone think it's possible that Rees is campaigning a little bit on Buchner's behalf?
I mean obviously Buchner is his guy, and probably his idea to get him on the team. If Buchner really did look best in the last scrimmage, and that's the guy Rees wants, perhaps that gives him a slight inside track to eventually win the job?

The first thing Kirby Smart said a week later after our TN game is, If we let the TN qb stand 3 steps behind their center and never put any pressure on him, its going to be a long afternoon. That, was a direct shot at how the Ala D line played vs TN.

Bama lost that game because of 17 million penalties for 260 million yards

When a team has a many penalties as Bama had against that ugly arse orange piece of shite of a team the odds of you winning are pretty damn low.
