If it was the norm for everyone, it isn't a big deal.

But home field advantage is real (see the effect on betting lines). Traveling cross country is real (see the effect in the NFL on betting lines).

The neutral site game is great for recruiting (usually played in a non-home large metropolitan area). And it avoids a lot of the pitfalls associated with road games. It made sense why Bama did it. But it also is a sort of a cop-out when trying to stack the difficulty of OOC scheduling.

And as you have acknowledged, it isn't the same fan experience (missing the home game with a big name opponent and missing the road trip opportunity for a hungry fanbase).
