Like Fields not staying composed and hitting a streaking tight end on the fake vs Bama.

That wasn’t exactly what happened, but yes Fields made a bad decision there.

Seriously, how many of y’all would take Mathis over Fields this season on the field?

I’m fine with Fields being gone. I feel like he was a distraction to our team. But to say Mathis is a better QB is legitimately dumb. Go watch his film. He has poor fundamentals, and isn’t as good of a runner or thrower as Fields.

He has a high upside, but so much of it has to do with expectations. Fields didn’t live up to his in Athens. Mathis won’t have that same issue.

Honestly feel Fields got overrated because of his ability to escape the pocket due to a poor oline in hs, he was way bigger than the average defender so he could make them miss. Arm talent wise, he extended plays to the point they broke down and throw to wide open wrs.

Mathis was overlooked playing ball in Michigan, I like what I see so far from his ability to get players lined up right, arm strength, and speed. Needs to add 15 pounds. Think he can be a slash type player As he grows into the the full time SEC qb role. So athletic, a true weapon. Really completely different from the bizarre role we used Fields in.

Fields earned the publicity that he held in high school.

But that doesn't make him a better QB than Mathis. If a QB can't get past his first read, that is a serious challenge to the offense. And a less talented thrower can be more effective.

As for running, Mathis is much quicker and faster. He probably is better scrambling from the pocket than Fields. Fields is a better goal line threat (which is a big plus to Fields' game. Hell... he was probably our best goalline weapon in 2018).

I would. Mathis has shown he doesn’t panic in the pocket, Fields has proven over and over he does. If Mathis has decent pocket presence this early in his career it’s only gonna improve from here. I’ll take Mathis all day long over JF.
