Many reasons but the biggest I would think is its easier to coach someone who doesn’t make more money than you. I truly feel Saban and others like to try and be a difference in kids life.

PSA: In case y'all didn't notice, this thread's title has changed. So have the posts on the 1st page. Why? Because the NCAA Transfer Portal is part of recruiting nowadays. That, along with roster and numbers tracking, needed to become more integrated into the Megathread.

The 2019 & 2018 Signing Classes and Rosters (including transfers & numbers tracking) are all included now on this thread's 1st page, and post designs have also been improved. Check it all out (click the links) -- it's pretty nice.

ETA: Quick tutorial on notable changes:

Since the 2020 & 2021 Top Targets lists include commits, the 1st post Commits lists are gone. The 1st & 3rd posts now hold the 2020 & 2021 Top Targets lists, with new header line links to 247's Top Targets, Commits & Offers lists. The 2nd post lists 2020 Additional Prospects who don't quite belong (or fit) on the 1st post list.

The 4th post is the 2019 Signing Class. It's also the active 2019 "recruiting board" for potential additional signees, including transfers and key walk-ons. Other new posts: 5th = 2018 Signing Class; 6th = 2019 Roster; 7th = 2018 Roster.

Note that the 4th & 5th posts have links to the 2019 & 2018 Megathreads; and the "dashboard" links at the top of the 1st post put you on some good stuff without searching or scrolling for it.
