To be fair to Florida, though, a lot of presidents and people with academic clout in the SEC would have a problem with UCF. And those opinions affect conference alignment more than most people realize.


Even though it's made great strides in the past 20 years, UCF is still viewed as a "commuter" college by a significant number of people within academia. For example, it would be virtually impossible for UCF to place any of their Ph.D. graduates in a tenure-track job at an SEC institution. Those perceptions take a long time to go away.
