Last year during the championship my auburn friends got together with a bunch of non Bama/UGA fans to watch at one of their houses. One of my friends in attendance who is an App St fan sent us a snap of the Auburn crew celebrating the 2nd and 26 like they had just won the championship themselves
I was incredibly surprised by this

My hate for UGA far exceeds my dislike for Bama. If UGA wins tomorrow they both make the playoffs. Pulling for Bama. They have earned the right, UGA 1980

Not surprising at all, and it's real simple. 1980 is *literally* the last thing AU fans have to hang onto to trump any kind of superiority over UGA on the football field. Once that disappears, they will have nothing. They will question their entire existence. Likewise, bama wins a title damn near every year so them winning another one is old hat at this point and not really any kind of surprise.
I bet you in 07/08 regular seasons when uga and bama played 90% of auburn fans were pulling for UGA.

It really isn’t surprising
Auburn has 2 rivals. Alabama and Georgia, while they may hate Alabama more they consider Georgia as their main rival and certainly their fun rivalry
At this point they have a talking point against Georgia, mainly 1980. Alabama winning another championship doesn’t mean much but Georgia winning one would hurt more
