I don't think Smart will be better than Saban for the simple reason that Saban's achievements at Bama will likely join the list of records considered unbreakable before he retires. But Smart can be elite, and "not being Saban" shouldn't be a factor whatsoever in making that determination.
Besides, in a few years, Smart won't have to go through Saban to get to the CFP title. Let's see what happens when the shackles are gone.

Yes. Kirby is just starting...Saban, though still cooking, is nearing closing time. Kirby has plenty of years to establish his legacy, with or without Saban in his path...
