It's not just the money - it's his career and livelihood.

It is foolish for a person to value "having fun in college" over furthering your career.

It's one thing to stay to improve your career prospects by spending your year learning, growing and improving, but not for companionship.

Kelly Washington at UT is a prime example of this.

quote:

Considered a lock to be a first-round pick if he left early, Washington stayed for his sophomore year but was limited to four games due to injuries.

After missing the first two games of that 2002 season with a knee sprain, and suffered a concussion October 12 at Georgia that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

He underwent surgery on November 19 to fuse two vertebrae in his neck.

I think it’s his decision to make, not mine. I have no problem with him going. But I think to say that staying is irrational and stupid and that he must go isn’t right. People value different things. People live differently.

Except these kids come here to win championships, develop as players and men, and hope to go the NFL and play. If he goes he will have accomplished all those things.

So to me it is more irrational as a fan to want him to stay just so the team we pull for can have a better chance to win next year and stupid to put our hopes for the team ahead of his goals as individual.

If he's a consensus first rounder, Saban will advise him to enter the draft.

I had a friend that used to say "If you think money doesn't buy happiness, you just don't know where to shop."

Money isn't everything, but not having money can really suck. We're talking life changing money by being drafted in the top 10. Taking care of your family and creating a life for your descendants, IF you take the right steps. And if he takes the right steps, he doesn't even HAVE to play football (and risk major life changing injury) any longer than that first contract.

So yeah, Q...love to have you stay, but do what's right for you and your loved ones. Make the jump; take the $$. Remember us and Roll Tide!

Q, if you value your friendships and your time in Tuscaloosa, come back if you want. Money isn’t everything. MONEY ISNT EVERYTHING. Some people will tell you to grab the money. But I say, be careful how much emphasis you put on “the money”. A lot of people give up everything for it.

When I die, I’m going to instruct my family to hitch a U-haul to my hearse and spread the pics everywhere just so people can’t say this anymore. And the U-haul will be rigged to drop a piece of my Bama memorabilia into the road every 100 yards and people will scramble out there and fight over it.

Some things stay with my body.

3000 years from now, my tomb will be unearthed and they'll think I was a pharaoh. Except instead of gold and jewels, they'll find a bunch of commemorative coke bottles and autographed footballs. It's going to be so confusing.

Did he redshirt a year? I thought he was just a sophomore and would not be eligible for another year.

Cole Cubelic said yesterday on wjox that he has heard that Q Williams has told people inside the Ala athletic complex that he wants to come back next year. CC said its possible that Williams could be drafted as high as the number one person taken in the NFL draft, so it would be insane for him to come back. Regardless, its good to hear that that some of our guys dont really want to leave early. Money probably wins out in this case, though.

Quinnen Williams coming back would only help cement next year's team as possibly the GOAT, and I'd love to see it, but I'd be shocked if we was getting top 5 projections and Saban didn't force him to leave

Anyone wanting him to stay is being selfish. He needs to go make some money.

Do you have a problem with Q making the decision himself? Or do you agree with the poster who said Saban should make him.

It wouldn't pay out over something like what happened to Jaylon Smith that dropped him from top 5 pick to 2nd rounder and cost him $15M.

His did payout, but not an amount close to what he would have made if he was drafted there.

I think Fournette had like a $10m policy

I’d love it as a fan if QW comes back but if i’m Saban I would threaten to pull his scholarship if he tries something like that.

College is prepare you for a career. If the market determines that you are ready to enter it at the highest possible pay grade allowable, you enter it. Especially if every time you practice your trade, you run the risk of being unable to practice it ever again.

Team loyalty is wonderful but regular student goes to college to get a good, high paying job. There aren't many better high paying jobs than top 10 NFL draft pick. If you're in that spot, you've GOT to take it.
I understand your point but kids value and want different things. Plus the likelihood of a meaningful injury is very low, especially at that position. In the end he will likely go and everyone would wish him well but it would be great for him to return. He could be a lynchpin for the first 3-peat in history, it might lead a couple of other kids to stay. You only have one shot at college life - then it's real life.

Anyway, whatever he chooses all Bama fans will be grateful to him and wish the best for him. He's a great kid.
