A Wisconsin-based secular group announced Tuesday that it is fighting the religious culture in Auburn University’s football program.
The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) said in a press release that it sent Auburn an open records request in 2014, asking for information related to football chaplain Chette Williams.
The church-and-state watchdog decided to continue its efforts “to stop the unconstitutionally excessive piety in Auburn University’s football program” after a video surfaced of Williams leading the team in prayer before Auburn’s Homecoming game against Southern Mississippi on Sept. 29.

Yea we need to keep it because the team that prays the most always wins. (Rolls eyes). This holier than thou attitude, and the mix of church and college football has always made me dislike auburn a little bit more.

Ridiculous.
I’m no Auburn apologist but that’s just stupid and the fact that it is even an issue tells you all you need to know about what is wrong with America.

If this becomes an actual legal battle, it is one battle that I hope Auburn wins.

Auburn should tell them to suck satan's dick and take it to the supreme court where kavavaugh will have the swing vote.
Your lawyers may even be able to stall this a couple months longer waiting for SDO to disintegrate.

I'll ride along. They did the same thing at the school my kids go to. Shut down student led prayer over the PA system before football games. And I'm sure they really thought they had a big victory when the superintendent nixed the prayer. But what they didn't forsee is a stadium full of people on both sides saying the Lord's Prayer in unison. Pretty cool.

How about yawn?
If it is just a pregame prayer, who cares. If it is excessive though, I do think we should get rid of it and Chette or whatever. 40% of the players probably dont believe in God as anyway as I think that is about the percentage of people who dont believe in God. So I could see it as being annoying.
But mostly again, yawn.

Don't these people have anything better to do in their lives? They tried to stop some metro Atlanta high schools from having graduations in this giant megachurch a couple of years ago (oh the horror).

Bama fan here and And I can tell you it is no one's business in Wisc how AU nor their football players and coaches choose to express faith. Mind your own affairs.
How ever being a friend of Pat Dye's I can tell you this. A big part of the religious atmosphere and activity around the AU football program has to do with recruiting. Simply because black people in the south, especially black women who control most of the families are extremely religious. And they want to send their son to play football to a place where religion comes first. And the coaches and admins at AU understand that perhaps better than any other D1 football school.

I can’t imagine what miserable people the members of the “Freedom From Religion Foundation” must be, nor the sheer volume of fedoras that must festoon their fat, Cheeto-dusted heads. If you want to be an atheist, that’s totally your business. But to be an “anti-religious crusader” requires a special kind of short-sighted, bigoted a-hole.

Frick these types of people. I’m sure they’ll change their minds just a tad too late when their asses are on fire down below.

Auburn handled those Antifa pricks pretty easy, why don't these idiots come on down too.

the establishment clause of the first amendment was meant to protect religion from govt, not the other way around. In general...
In specific, I doubt there's any danger of King Henry the 8th or his daughter Bloody Mary forcing Auburn to be Anglican, and then forcing them to be Catholic again, and then having people burned at the stake.

I’m a supporter of freedom of religion and the 1st Amendment and disagree with this move, but the whole Auburn As a Spiritual Experience has always been sanctimonious, cultish and off-putting. The Ring Ceremony, the Creed and a lot of their university culture is just wack.
Gene Chizik called his national championship season a “God thing”. They ate it up before they fired him. Gag me.
