I especially love the Soviet style architecture

That is the shittiest college town list I've seen in a long time. Seriously, how can you not have Fayetteville or Oxford yet have Santa Monica?
Posted on 8/10/18 at 9:25 am to Farmer1906
Starkville and Oxford are really the only true college towns.
Posted on 8/10/18 at 9:39 am to BobLeeDagger
Right. The town called College Station is not a college town. I love you Mississippians.

It was named for a rail stop. If same had happened in Starkville they would be College Station too. Could as easily been Bryan as College Station.

Yes, but the stop was for a college town.

These things are subjective at best...and you would not have posted it if your school wasn't included...lol...

Texas A&M is a ghey school and doesn't belong in the SEC. Sad. We should have taken the much more prestigious university in Austin.
Can't be said enough

Nobody wanted you in the SEC.
Nobody thinks College Station is cool.
Nobody looks foward to playing a&m bc it’s a fun game and cool atmosphere.
Nobody gives a flying frick about y’all.
We have a history and tradition here in the SEC. we are just now getting used to Arkansas & South Carolina. They are a natural fit. The University of Texas would’ve been a natural fit. Academically, athletically and culturally. Stop thinking y’all are some SEC blueblood with a storied history and campus better than everyone else.

Not much of a town back then. If memory serves it really was just a rail stop and no real town at the time. I think the rail line went through in the 1800's but College Station (as an actual town) did not incorporate till the 1900's.
Hell in the 1950's seems it was like 5,000 - 10,000 folks there. If memory serves Bryan was the original land grant (who was SFA's nephew) and the state university was a Morril Land grant which means post Civil War? TAMU being a big arse school is not a historic thing but was fueled by growth in the 60's and 70's (especially after they became coed). UK was the same way as they were an A&M before they changed to admit women.

not sure how uga person talk trash about Clemson's lake with that muddy ugly river and ghetto pond next to ur campus lol
i read an article about how people getting mugged on trails around that river
The ghetto pond is actually a nice lake, very safe, surrounded by intramural fields and the campus arboretum. I caught a 7 lb bass on a rattletrap in that lake in 1997.
Regarding the river, yes it is muddy, just like every other piedmont river. It's not a glistening mountain stream. Back in the old days, the trails along the river were very muggy and sketchy, but in the early 2000's the city did the Greenway project that cleaned it all up with many wide open spaces and got rid of the ghetto park that was once there, and all the bad neighborhoods alongside it have since been gentrified with upper middle class student housing and trendy craftsman remodels where professors live.
TlDr- Your post is 20 years too late. Go post this 20 years ago and you'd be 2/3 right.

So the only thing that separates College Station from other college towns is you can drive over an hour to get to Austin and other big cities in the state. So it seem the the flagship college Texas is the best in that state.

No, you really don’t. I’ve been there several times to watch them play LSU and Alabama and it is always the weirdest experience. Their tailgating sucks (if you can even call it that), their chants are off the chart crazy-you literally feel like you need a church program to follow along and, when your team beats them they will shake your hand and want to hug you. I guess I just grew up where everyone took our SEC football seriously and we didn’t play nice to conference rivals (and I use that term loosely when talking about A&M).
But, their band was good, so theirs that!

Funny, I've never heard anyone who's been to College Station refer to it in such glowing terms! Funny ole world

I would take Oxford for the female scenery alone.
