Why are Ohio State fans directing attention to the SEC instead of Urban Meyer?

quote:
In one of the most misplaced displays of blind fandom since Penn State fans marched for Joe Paterno, thousands and thousands of Ohio State fans are throwing their support behind disgraced coach Urban Meyer and trying to cast him as a victim. He's not. He's a manipulative coward, and he deserves to be fired.
quote:
The ugly side of college football was on full display in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday night when some Buckeyes fans decided to not only defend Meyer like some heroic martyr, but -- and this still blows my mind -- but co-op Ohio State's domestic abuse scandal into propagating some bizarre conspiracy theory about the SEC and ESPN.
quote:
Why are Ohio State fans trying to lump the SEC and ESPN into this scandal of Meyer's making? Do Ohio State fans think that ESPN wants Meyer fired? ESPN employed Meyer as a college football television analyst after he flamed out at Florida.
You remember Meyer's tenure at Florida, right? Aaron Hernandez? Chris Rainey? Ring any bells?
Meyer actually had a safety on his team at Florida who stole the credit card of a deceased student ... who happened to be the girlfriend of Gators cornerback Joe Haden. Now that's "#RealFraud."
Why are Ohio State fans directing attention to the SEC instead of Urban Meyer?

ITs very weird up there, they may have michigan but the SEC is all they talk about. I think they may listen to finebaum more than SEC people do.

Ohio State fans are unhealthily obsessed with the SEC

Fake news....maybe it was 100 fans and that's being nice. Thousands?

ESPN getting from both sides on this.
When the story broke, everyone was accusing them of trying to protect Ohio State because they were silent on it for several hours.

Oh my, Ohio State has had their issues with hiring whack jobs as Head Coaches.

Laughable
The media slurped Ohio State all year in 2006, called them the greatest team ever, and laughed at the idea that lowly, ugly Florida could ever beat them
After 41-14, the "SEC is the toughest conference" narrative was born, and the SEC proved them right.
I laugh whenever Ohio State fans call the SEC overrated. The SEC hype is a beast that OSU created by getting stomped by Florida, 41-14
Lol

Regardless whether he is fired or retained, couches will be burned.

Fans outside of the conference call ESPN
eSECpn.
It’s been like that for a while now. They think we get special treatment from the network.
They think Mcmurphy is some covert rogue journalist placed by the SEC/ESPN to take down Urban/Ohio state
Not saying they cater to us but we run the network for sure and rightfully so.
When you have a sport /conference like that that brings them in the money/views, i don’t care what they do.
And it starts with the great voice of our great conference, Paul Finebaum.
The motherfrickin man
ETA: people also forget Mcmurphy isn’t technically employed by ESPN anymore, but still being paid by them

They have conspiracy theories about the NCAA, ESPN, and the SEC being tied together

Not sure what they’re scared about.
Penn State’s situation was far worse and now look where they are.

Same fan base that shite in their own coolers during a packed game vs Texas. Nothing should be surprising.

My neighbor, who other than being a Buckeye is a damn good dude, swears that this is just an attempt to bring down OSU. Urbz did'n do nuffin. They're the biggest brand in CFB with the biggest fanbase. People just want to see them fall.

I have chatted about this SEC/ESPN conspiracy and here is what they can not answer. ESPN is about ratings, and the Big 10 has more populated states, so there bias is naturally towards the Big 10 and Pac 12. SEC states are mostly rural, just not as big of a tv market and it makes no sense for espn to favor these states. In fact since the start of sec network, espn has been covering less sec on their main networks talk shows, such as college football live, and have been focusing more on Big 10 and Pac 12. This makes sense because they know the SEC is being covered in depth on one of their networks already.
