USC > Auburn all day in 2004
Auburn went 0-2 against USC just two seasons prior to the 2004 year. They were shut out in their home stadium 23-0 by USC the year prior to 2004.
USC dominated a highly respected and undefeated Oklahoma team. Complete domination. Auburn struggled against the ACC Champion, who USC beat more convincingly during the regular season as an OOC opponent. Auburn scheduled powerhouses Louisiana-Monroe, The Citadel, and La Tech for their OOC games. USC also had Notre Dame as an OOC opponent.
If I recall correctly, Va Tech’s fullback dropped a lay up pass in the end zone that would have given them the lead. I’m not 100% on that but I’m highly confident that was the case.
Auburn 2004 was good, but objectively USC was better. USC beating Auburn twice two years prior is more relevant than how each team’s players performed in the NFL.
