IIRC Auburn got shut out by USC at home the year before. That 2004 USC team was even better and while its not fair to say 04 Auburn couldnt have beaten USC, you can at least reasonably say 04 was a more talented team with a better coach and would have been a significant favorite

Not to mention the fact that 04 Auburn refused to play an AQ OOC team.
