Best thing to do is get in a routine.

My first hitch over there I got me some cable, a small TV (24 inch variety) with a built in DVD player, a computer, internet, made a recon of the commissary within the first couple days.

I kept incidental chow in the fridge but took at least two meals a day in the mess hall. Friday and Saturday night were for eating “out”. Friday night was a Hamburger+Chili Dog night and a couple movies. Saturday night was pizza night and a couple movies. Of course the movies could be replaced with cable if there was something decent to watch.

AFN does a decent job of televising college football during the season. During football season I’d pass out early Saturday evening and wake up about midnight to get Gameday, which is definitely aired live on AFN. Head down to the kitchen and make some bacon and fried eggs, maybe some biscuits (you can buy the frozen ones that are already cooked and you just need to heat up) or some English muffins. Eat breakfast at 1am and watch some football with a pot of coffee.

I can’t stress how important your first duty assignment is to your enlistment/career. 99% of that is getting a routine set that will carry you through.

There are some excellent places to eat up in Seoul. I can give you a list if you want. Your unit sounds like Taegu, so it would probably require a pass.
