Jake Peavy signed with Auburn but was drafted and signed out of high school. Had he attended, he probably would have been a top-5 pick three years later.

I actually didn't know that. I was a big fan of Peavy when he was with the Padres.

But I'm sure every SEC school has had some big names signed that ended up getting drafted high snd skipping college.
I remember for the class of 2012 Auburn had signed both David Dahl (OF, Rockies) and Addison Russell (SS, Cubs) but both got drafted back to back in the 1st round, 10th and 11th respectively. Didn't take either long to make the show. Russell has already been an All-Star and if Dahl can ever stay healthy he could be a star. Having those two players together for 3 yrs would have been program changing,

Long story short, I played some juco baseball in LA...Lower Alabama that is, from 01-03. I had a few teammates from Mobile/Semmes area that were buddies with him all growing up. When i got to fall camp in 01, those dudes were going on and on about this Jake Peavy cat who was pitching for the Mobile BayBears, talking about how good he was going to be...

...fast forward a decade and a half, and a few HOF-caliber years later for Peavy, and all those boys were spot on.
