Soccer isn't the future that will replace football in the US. There isn't enough violent action for football fans to convert.

The replacement will be eSports. Photorealistic avatars controlled by professional players committing acts of violence to each other that even the Roman gladiators couldn't imagine will be the next big thing for live sports. People will get to scratch the itch that football scratches but no one will actually get hurt.
