That’s such a STL thing. Something may have happened about 40 years ago so the old timers are using that to influence 18 YO to go somewhere else.

I remember when Onion Horton, the late Morris Henderson and Charlie Tuna(Tuna has since cooled out on that) back in the 70's and 80's tried to get kids and especially black kids not to go to Mizzou, because they wouldn't recruit any far east of St. Louis County in St. Louis back then.

The higher uppers at Mizzou had to force Onofrio to recruit the PHL in the city and the eastside and kids still ended up there. Kevin Potter, Demetrius Johnson, Steve Hamilton, Wendell(Sting) Ray(Shane Ray's dad) came from the PHL while Johnny Poe, Eric Wright and Kellen Winslow came from East St. Louis.

Today, colleges and especially Illinois are using race and Mizzou offering St. Louis kids late as a weapon against Mizzou. That's just the dirty business of recruiting. Plus Mizzou doesn't have the most loyal fan base(attendence) and the acceptance of mediocrity.

Just keeping it real!

That song is still sung in the high schools of St. Louis. Until the Terrance Curry's and Howard Richards of the Missouri world can get the word out that it is over blown and happens at every college campus it will still be sung.
