I believe it to be more of a Boone County thing. My friends who went to Mizzou in the 80's who were not scholar athletes told me about Boone County police and sheriff's department.

For years Charlie "Tuna" Edwards and Onion Horton have been preaching do not send black or white athletes there.

the police here do suck. But I dont think that interferes
with recruiting.

That’s such a STL thing. Something may have happened about 40 years ago so the old timers are using that to influence 18 YO to go somewhere else.
