Why in hell were they in the tournament in the first place?

Because they earned an at large bid.
Are you aware of how the selection process works or do we need to get into that next?
We got smoked by arguably the best team in the country.
We hung with them for a half and then all hell broke loose and they couldn't miss from deep.
No reason to be embarrassed at all imo.

Wait, are you insinuating a team that lost 15 games and went under .500 in conference play didn't deserve to be in the tournament? Blasphemy. That 16th loss though, that one was just too much to overcome.

Because we went and beat two teams in the SEC Tournament that are still in the NCAA Tournament. Then we went and beat a good VT team.
We lost to a #1 seed that hit 17 threes. Hard to beat a team that is that hot, particularly when they are one of the best teams in the country.
