Well that’s a kick in the dick. Gotta knock the hire out of the park.

Yeah, just saw that. Anyone know what happened?

Missed Butch. Pruitt told him to GIT.

C'mon.
say what you will of the recruiting class, but the staff decisions have been top notch.

I liked Gillespie too, but he's being paid twice as much as many top tier RB coaches who have recruited much better and have produced better results on the field than him.

Time to poach Jay Graham

I believe he also served as recruiting coordinator so my guess would be that he stayed on until signing day but that he either always planned to leave or Pruitt always planned to hire another RB coach. He was getting paid a lot because he was assistant head coach, recruiting coordinator and RB coach so a demotion to just RB coach would've sucked for him and I doubt JP knows him well enough to trust him with those other roles right off the bat.
I liked RG a lot. Hopefully we get someone just as good or better but I can't say that I was ever unhappy with CRG.

I doubt Pruitt will get another running back coach that can identify and develop talent like Gillespie. He was rare in that regard, but he could pull a better recruiter.
I wonder if this was mutual or if it had something to do with how much he was making and his previous extended role.

He wasn't gonna keep his Assistant Head coach title, Pruitt doesn't know him like that.

Not too big of a shock when you look at everything
1) You could see the writing on the wall when the announced the rest of the staff's salary and that he didn't get a new deal.
2) He was a hold over from not 1 but 2 staff's of failing regime's, which is kind of weird. Most coaches like to bring their own guys, no matter how good a recruiter a hold over might be
3) He started Hurd over Kamara
Bring me Dell McGee, or Jay Graham and lets roll. Potential substitutes for these two could be Hugh Freeze, and possibly Rush(although Colquitt is loaded this year so he might not leave, but that would be a nice pipeline to have)

God help me not Freeze. His mishandling of RBs at Ole Miss should be considered criminal
ETA: though I suppose he wouldn't be calling the plays so that would helped

First time I have heard this.

Weinke is the guy. This is the first hire I'm not excited about. I'm tired of having guys learn on the job.

At least running backs are by far the easiest to coach. I feel like Pruitt wants a bagman at that position. Gillespie didn’t feel like that, but Weinke does.

Weinke will bring the goons, and if you recruit 5* RBs, you don't have to do much coaching.

I've seen this similar sentiment but am not sure where it comes from. Has he shown he can recruit? Not disagreeing just not seeing where this confidence comes from with his career. Just his connection with IMG?

He doesn't have connections to IMG, he built their entire football program in 2010.
Which means he had to scout and recruit the best HS coaches and players in America to get that program off the ground, it took less than 2 years to turn it into the football factory that it is today.

I bet we also took that slaw DL to help. Parents expect their kids to go D1 if they go to IMG. A “you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” thing going on. I won’t be surprised if we land a few recruits from there this year.
