People keep saying that, but if we finish last in the West for next 3 years will a better coach want the job?

Yes. There are much better coaches than Luke.

Yeah. Honestly, if we win 4 or fewer games this year, I wouldn’t be surprised if we move on. I know I’ll be calling for his head if that’s the case at least. We’re paying Luke in peanuts relative to other SEC coaching contracts, and hopefully our appeal and court proceedings will be done by the time it’s clear we have to move on (not necessarily when we should move on, which some would argue has already happened). Once we’re done paying a frick ton of lawyers to help us get out of sports jail, we’ll have more money to give someone who wouldn’t have found a way to lose to Cal, Arkansas, and aTm last year. Granted, if Luke hadn’t been such an idiot, we would’ve won 8 games, and we probably would’ve given him something resembling a big boy contract, which would be much worse than his JV contract.

Still, simply by nature of the money available, we can attract someone who wants this job and is better at it than Matt Luke. Hopefully it’s an Orgeron situation where we have a lot of talent on the field that just needs some halfway knowledgeable coaching to make consecutive Cotton Bowls (but by the same token, hopefully Luke’s successor actually tries to recruit and give a damn after Luke’s players graduate, unlike Hootie Dale)
