Bama always loses a bunch of starters, but always returns a bunch of guys who played a considerable amount of meaningful snaps.

If Shoop didn't let Sgt. Carter turn him into a complete moron, I'm liking how 2018 is shaping up for us.

2 on defense, uh huh. I'm pretty sure every returning LB and and D-lineman we have "started" at some point last year.

The only area I'm at all concerned with is the DB's. There's talent there, just not much experience.

Dem backups doe!

Bama may have 10 first round picks on their 2017 class alone... You saw them in the 2nd half of the title game leading Bama to victory.

But I heard UGA was a senior laden team losing everyone...how can it be that AU lost more?

We actually return 4 starters on Defense (1DL, 3LB). 5 if you count Raekwon Davis over Da'Shawn Hand. The front 7 will be good, with the exception of maybe NT. Corner is definitely a question mark, but I feel optimistic about Safety given how well Deionte Thompson played in the Playoff and the fact that Daniel Wright and Xavier McKinney will have another year in the system.

It’s really far off for UK. I think we’re returning 10 on defense (article said 8), and we only lose 3 on offense (i think the article said 4). So by my count the Cats bring back 18, not 15.

Yes, and no. Thompson ended up starting the Sugar Bowl and NCG when Hootie Jones went down against Auburn. So there is at least some experience back at safety. Corner will be a concern.

Did you know Bama lost 7 defensive starters off the 2016 team? All 7 started or played minutes in the 1st qtr of their NFL team.

Most Casual SEC fans don't realize this.

Our defense in 2018 will be very, very good returning two all SEC 1st team DL in Simmons and Sweat.

doesn't matter because all their backups are 5 stars and they'll bring in a bunch of Freshman who are better than 75% of the leagues starters.

I'm not sure where they're getting their numbers from. Auburn will lose 3 starters on defense. 4 if you want to count Tre Williams, which did not play half the season.

And on offense, several O lineman got starts this past year. The ones leaving had more experience but far less talent than the younger players. Losing KJ will hurt for sure though.

Those numbers are off ... at least for SC.

They evidently looked strictly at final game depth charts instead of taking into account injuries suffered by starters (who are returning) during the course of the season.

It's a misleading take on the actual starters, the better players who suffered injuries, earlier in the season.

Biggest thing on defense for Alabama is we return all of these guys

Raekwon Davis (DE)
LaBryan Ray (DE)
Quinnen Williams (DE)
Mack Wilson (LB)
Dylan Moses (LB)
Keith Holcombe (LB)
Anfernee Jennings (OLB)
Christian Miller (OLB)
Terrell Lewis (OLB)
Jamey Mosely (OLB)
Deionte Thompson (S)
Trevon Diggs (CB)
Shy Carter (CB/STAR)

They all played a lot (and most started) a bit in huge games all throughout the year.

We return serious experience and experienced depth at DL/LB and Thompson was great at S during the playoffs. In reality we are only "replacing" CB and 1 of the safeties with guys who will be thrown into the fire. Any article acting like we return 2 starters and a bunch of fresh faces is either (a) trolling or (b) written by an idiot.

I think returning snaps played would be a better metric than starters.

When we were in the B12 I used to follow stats like this. They mean so little here because there is soooo much talent on the bench and being recruited every year.

Sweet Bama lost 6 DB's! Mizzou returns almost their entire offense and SEC TD record holder Drew Lock, we are going to burn them! Oh wait, they have 4-5 star DB's who are build like our weakside LB's coming to take their spot.

For a school like Mizzou, returning starters are a big deal. For 75% of the league it doesn't matter at all.
