The players should get paid something but they already get free school, books, tutors,etc....As soon as players get paid you can bet all the non revenue generating sports will be gone. Schools would have to pay women's basketball, softball, volleyball,etc...too and there's no way they can when they lose money on those sports already. Players are now getting paid. They get cost of attending stipend checks on top of housing checks (if they live off campus). Add in grants and student loans, and these kids can afford the expensive cars that they are driving (the car is the only expense with all if that money). They are living better than 1/2 of the population with disposable funds.
