Dang, this sucks. Really wish we could have gotten that young, fiery coach from Northeast Technical State instead of this old guy. Just feels like we settled... I mean, he's only coached in two national championship games as a coordinator. We're better than that.

Not the name many wanted to hear but nowhere near a bad hire. I'm willing to see what they can produce.

Lol because Chavis paired with an up tempo spread worked so well at Texas A&M

If he drags some of those unsigned Aggie commits up to the Hill and I'll be fine.

Knows how to build an SEC defense, something Morris really needs. Chavis is a great evaluator of defensive talent as well, we can't afford to make many misses in recruiting.

I'm whelmed by the hire. Not overwhelemed, not underwhelmed, just sort of whelmed.

On the plus side if he lands us in the 60's in team defense it would be a vast improvement over what we've had for the last few years.

I've given this some more thought since last night.

I think it could be a good thing for a couple reasons.

1) Morris and Sumlin run different offenses. Sumlin is a run and gun / air raid guy while Morris seems to be more of a uptempo wishbone guy. Being uptempo doesn't necessarily mean quick strike. If Morris can produce 8 - 10 play drives Chavis' numbers will improve over what he had at A&M.

2) and maybe more importantly... How much of A&M's problems under Sumlin were cultural? See the pimp stick fiasco. See Johnny Manziel. See persistent rumors of head coach being a staggering drunk. Point is, Chavis may have been hamstrung by a number of things.

Let's hope he is able to get us closer to where he was at LSU than at Aggy.

ETA: The most important thing going forward for this team, no matter who the defensive coordinator is, is that the offense doesn't turn the ball over. The entire scheme' success, or lack thereof, is predicated on taking care of the ball.

If the defense can create turnovers, it will be huge.

The Chief knows the SEC, maybe he can get some aTm recruits.

Contrary to what CCM said, doubt he got the best. Huge upgrade to anything Bert brought to the hill.

Keep Chief around for 3 years and if we don't see major improvement, kick his arse to the curb.

FWIW, Vegetables wasn't leaving Clempson for Arkansas
