You will never convince me there wasn't a coach out there somewhere we could have guaranteed 5 years minimum and 6 million a year and they wouldn't have taken it.
“hey mr potential head coach, we have this great offense but they’re all going to transfer when the COI hands down the punishment. Maybe you can convince them after about a week of knowing them to stay. And about that COI deal, you’ll be the first to know as soon as they let us know how many scholarships they are taking away from you too. They’ll tell us eventually. It’ll be ok though, we’ll pay you 6 mil. Deal?”

So we bent to a couple of players who might make the difference between 4 and 5 wins next season? That's like letting a couple of petulant toddlers blackmail you into giving them ice cream for dinner.

After Ole Miss’ upset of Mississippi State, Patterson and Brown, per sources, were among the players who approached Bjork and said they’d transfer out if Luke wasn’t the head coach. Luke has the overwhelming support of his players, is the point, and it appears that support is what pushed Luke over the finish line.
Oh God, I can hear the "hire O" locker room chants after the LSU a&M game last year ringing in my head

Godfrey said the good players would not be transferring. It would be the 3-star who wasn't a starter.

Hearing Ross' speech after knowing the outcome made me absolutely sick.

The fact that y’all think chad Morris and people like that are worth $6M a year scares me. If we hired chad Morris the same people complaining about Luke would be complaining about the Tuey family running Ole Miss since he was their guy.
ETA:
Jimbo Fisher isn’t making $6M a year at FSU
Chip Kelly isn’t making $6M at UCLA
Chad fricking Morris isn’t worth more than these guys

People are angry and not thinking clearly. In our current situation, Luke is what you should have expected.
We could have shelled out 6 mil, but only coaches that were worth around 3 mil would have taken it. Coaches who could get 6 mil anywhere else would have laughed in our face.
Our program is fricked right now and a hometown guy who can keep the players invested and motivated is the only thing that could help.
Sorry you're all so delusional about where we stand right now. Just suck it up and live through the bad times. Pray to whatever god you believe in that Luke makes a decent OC hire and somehow we avoid a winless season.

I'm convinced some people just want to watch the world burn. Nothing was going to make some of our OM "fans" happy. They would have poked holes in whoever was named. $6 million and several years guarantee for a mid-major? Amazing.

Exactly. No up-and-coming coach is going to risk his career on OM without knowing what penalties are going to happen.
"Hello Willie Taggert/Norvel/(insert coach), would you like to be OM's new coach"
"Maybe. How long will the bowl ban be"
"Uh idk"
"Well how many scholarship will I have to work with"
"Uh idk"
"How long will the program be under probation"
"Uh idk"
"Well thanks but no thanks"

My thoughts exactly. Luke isn't a perfect candidate, but gosh damn these players love him and he has a lot of support from the University.
I just don't agree with going out and hiring a different coach from a mid major job (like a Frank Wilson or a Neal Brown) who has less experience at OM than Luke, will be less passionate and committed than Luke, will put in less effort than Luke, doesn't know the players as well as Luke, isn't as loved by the players as Luke, and will have to start from scratch in terrible circumstances that consist of a bowl ban, scholarship reductions, and probation at a school that doesn't have the most rich football history.
You're asking an outside coach to walk into what is essentially a death trap. At least Luke seems like he wants to take on the challenge that will be these next 3-4 years and try to keep the ship upright, whereas an outside coach may come into the job with the idea that he will struggle from the beginning. Knock Luke all you want for in-game coaching decisions (a lot of the criticism is warranted), but you can't knock his ability to motivate players and keep them invested in the season, even when the season has gone to shite.
I personally believe that this kind of "never quit" attitude is exactly what this program needs right now.
