@BruceFeldmanCFB: Have heard there's been lots of push among #Arkansas BOT folks on the HC front. Some big money ppl driving for Gus Malzahn. Pretty messy there & Jeff Long got swept under in it.

You do know that he heard it here first? LMAO, nothing new, been said for weeks.

I'm still trying to figure out what Norvell has done.
This. I've seen a bunch of people say Norvell would get same or better results than Malzahn, there's no way to know that. Peoole are wanting the wrong Arkansas native.

That's true and all but Long was out regardless.

True, but what we do know is Gus averages 8-5 with top 5 recruiting classes.
We also know Gus will not be able to recruit top 5 classes to Arkansas.
We do know that Norvell has elevated Memphis's recruiting above where Fuentes had it. We do know Norvell has recruiting connections in TN, AR, MS, TX, LA, AL, while Gus has connections in AL, and AR.

I hope we don't waste time trying to pry someone unreachable out while Norvell gets ripped out from under us. Just back the Brinks truck up to his house and bury his home in stacks of money and be done with it.

We also know that it would take 5 mil to get Gus and 2.5 to get Norvell

As someone who was a fan of the Bert hire, I’m most concerned with recruiting ties to TX and LA. One of Bert’s biggest downfalls IMO. Personally I like Campbell but question whether he could adapt better than Bert did. My concern with Norvall would be his ability to assemble a quality staff, perhaps he’d have no issues, I don’t know.
I’d certainly take Gus over anybody from the Big 10 or Holtz.

This is EXACTLY the point, everyone should take note. We know what Gus is capable of at an SEC program with top 10 classes. Sure an 8-5 average is a decent known commodity and it's certainly better than our recent average, but you can make an educated guess that his average would most likely be less than that here based off what we KNOW. You can sum it up as low risk, low reward.
Norvell might be an unknown commodity and could certainly fail, but we also don't have evidence that points to that possibility at this point. It's been said many times around here lately but the next great coach is out there somewhere, he just hasn't landed at that right spot at the right time. There's no reason Norvell couldn't be that great coach for Arkansas. He can be summed up as high risk, high reward.
We've gone the route of the experienced, proven HC and wound up no better off than before. I think it's time we take a risk and see what happens, we're basically playing with house money at this point.

this x infinity
someone put it in letter format and mail it to the new athletic director when he's hired
that or hoping someone with connections to the athletic director is reading this and puts a bug in the ear of the right people

Gus would recruit an annual top 25 class here. If someone told you we would win 44+ games with 1 SEC title(possibly 2) in a 5 year span you would say no thanks to that? He's been to 3 SEC title games in the last 8 years he's been in the SEC as a coach. And he'll go to another if he beats Bama next week. He's a winner, plain and simple. 8-4 with 10+ win seasons mixed in every couple years is what we got with Petrino, people didn't seem to mind that. Gus system to made to adjust and overcome talent disadvantages. We'd average 40+ on offense next year guaranteed.
you act like Gus doesn't have connections in all those states and more. Gus probably has more connections in hs football than any coach in this region.

Then why is it a complete shite show with the QBs he recruits out of high school and develops?

How many players has he signed out of Texas and LA?

Also who is going to be his defensive staff?
The one he has now all have ties to Auburn, not him...

Where the program is at right now, there is not alot of risk involved, but I want someone who knows what it takes to win the SEC, not another outsider. The next great coach is sitting at UCF, btw
Posted on 11/16/17 at 8:30 pm to DaleDenton
Even if he doesn't have a good/great QB, his running offense is still nearly unstoppable. People forget they steamrolled people last year when they finally settled on that small white dude, and then struggled once he got hurt. Good thing about around here, most schools run a variation of his offense now, so QBs are more likely to be developed here than Auburn where they still play alot of standard I-formation ball in alot of the deep South.
No idea, but it's pretty well known how many contacts he has in Okahoma, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, etc. There's not alot of need to go west of Auburn to get recruits. Gus has pretty much raided Georgia since he's been at Auburn.

He'll be gone before the GOBN gets shite figured out.
Think way shittier coach, if Gus gives us the finger.

Steele and Greg Brown don't have ties to Auburn do they?

Florida - 23
Mississippi - 8
Kansas - 6
California and Colorado - 2
Arizona, Indiana, Ohio, Oklahoma, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Washington DC - 1
That is from a RT poster on his recruiting. Takes gambles on JUCOs and transfers along with the top ten classes AU provides for him.
