I think maybe you're confusing pride and pretension since you're the one who used the word.
I haven't read this entire thread, but I think it started with Brandon Walker's tweet. His tweet wasn't claiming he or other state fans are better than Stingray. Rightly or wrongly, his tweet was saying he doesn't want Stingray representing State because the way he did it brought unnecessary embarrassment to the state.
Personally, I thought the Tosh segment was funny and could've been a lot worse—and it's worth noting that BW's tweet was before the segment, so he probably thought it would be worse too.

Well, frick him very much, then, then. I come from Vicksburg, born and bred, and I wasn't in the least bit embarrassed by Stingray. We're Southerners. There's no point in trying to pretend otherwise, and people who get uppity about harmless stuff like what Stingray did should move to Missouri or something so they'll have a legitimate reason to be embarrassed by their fellow citizens.
