There is another line of thinking on that front as well though. Maybe Dan is the type of coach that doesn't want to go where it's been done before...where it would be almost immediately expected again. Maybe he is the type of coach that wants to do it where it's never been done. He may want to leave his legacy at a place where it will live forever (similar to Steve Spurrier). If he ever won the SEC at state, even once, he would be a legend forever. And he has worked hard, toiled, and sweat to build State into a respectable program that may just climb that hill. I wouldn't just discount the fact that he is not a competitive coach just because he stays at State. If anything, he is carving his own way despite the disadvantages. Saying all this, I don't think anyone could blame him if he did leave for greener pastures and I am not saying he won't. Just providing another view of it.

That's what I'm HOPING for. The guy has pulled in 2 and 3 star talent that became all-sec. Now he's established something and recruiting is getting better. I think he stays, he does return almost everyone next year.

In all honesty, I like ran mullen, and respect what he's done at msu. I think he's a good coach too. He's done wonders for state. I just don't see him passing up the florida job. I may be wrong though.

Here's another thing to consider is that Mullen knows with ole miss current and future troubles, he is about to clean up in state recruiting. While there's not talent in mississippi to make 2 legitimate contenders, there is enough to make 1. The only two light position groups in mississippi recruiting year in and year out are OL and QB. And nobody can doubt mullen's ability to find and develop a Qb at this point.

If he plays this ole miss down cycle right 9-3, 10-2 could go from being the ceiling to the new norm.
