These things work themselves out.

Either ND or UGA will shite the bed before it comes to this.

OP: "I can't and/or don't read this forum regularly..."

It's been asked/answered about every which way... Too many variables.
How many 1 loss or fewer conference champions?
How does UGA look in the games prior to the SECCG and how does the game itself go?
Bama likely given the edge more easily than UGA... though the outcome of the SECCG could maybe color that... Notre Dame with the 1 point loss... if UGA somehow managed an impressive win, might tarnish Bama a bit, though they would have one more win than ND in that case still..

Georgia would, just because of the head to head, along with wins over Georgia Tech and... well, I got nothin. Auburn? I guess? At that point, they'd be at least a 4 loss team.

For Bama, wins over a terrible Florida St, Colorado St, Fresno St, LSU, Miss St, and Auburn... yeah, probably not the best schedule this year.

Strength of schedule won't be the SEC's friend this year.

IF UGA squeaks by its remaining opponents, loses bigly to Bama, and ND wins out in dominating fashion, then ND might end up ranked above UGA. Otherwise, I think the head-to-head would trump.

There’s no way to predict how that decision will be made yet. But as long as people’s opinions rule out most logical reasoning, there will continue to be unfairness throughout.
Refer to:

2011 bama and 2016 Ohio State-
Both lost their division, didn’t play conference championship, got in anyway.

2003 Oklahoma-
Lost to Kansas state in conference championship and still made the natty over the “people’s champ” AP poll winner USC

Love that we got rid of a “corrupt” formula that considered statistical analysis plus combined all the polls to give a final answer on rankings only to switch to a panel of 12 people to decide the fate of teams.

Seriously? I can understand former coaches and players having a say, even though biased, but they put condaleeza rice on this committee... I just need an explanation as to how someone who never played and probably hasn’t watched more football than any poster on this site is given the power to help determine who’s deserving to be in the top 4.

That being said, you can’t rule out a one loss ND going in over a one loss UGA. Even though the head to head AT HOME, the extra game in the conference championship, and just outright knowing whose been the better team should make the decision pretty fricking obvious.

Hell no! A one loss Notre Dame team will always get the benefit of the doubt. You can take that to the bank.

How many fricking times/ways does this topic have to be presented to this board?...you'd think that some folks around here were a little "thick".

I don’t think it’s fair, especially because I’m a UGA fan. But I do think the committee set the prescedence last year taking tOSU over a clearly more deserving PSU.

ND with one loss is a lock, they are the only truly national brand. I’m not talking about teams( Bama, Miami, tOSU USC) having a national following of band wagoners when the are winning. But come win or loss a true national following.

The $$$$$ can’t be walked away from,
at 11-1 ND is a lock.

I do think Bama could get in as well with 1 loss to UGA, I really don’t think the Dawgs get the flip side of that.

UGA has to win SEC to get in, unfortunately.

However, I’ve always said I though CONF champs should be the only ones to get in from P5 confs, it would do be hippocritical to change my mind now.

Georgia should, seeing how they won at Notre Dame and their only loss would be to Alabama.

Nope. Notre Dame's strength of schedule is much better than both Bama and Georgia. The Irish wins out and they are in no matter what

If its a close loss to Bama then UGA certainly should. They beat ND on their home field starting a true freshman qb and holding ND to like 60 yards rushing.

ND has a decent strength of schedule, and I'm not arguing against that, but I think it is probably a little overblown by the media. They are profiting a bit from beating teams that are actually over-ranked imo. Anyone who has watched USC before they got stomped by ND knows they are not a very good football team, and should not have been ranked 11 going into that game. Just like anyone who has watched a team like Stanford knows they don't belong in the top 25; hopefully Stanford drops another game or two by the time they play ND so that when ND beats them by 3 tds it won't be seen as a true 'quality' win. Idk much about Mich state, just that they beat a Michigan team who has no offense. Maybe that is a true quality win for ND, I'm not sure though tbh.

NC State is a good team, probably their best remaining opponent imo. That would be a quality win for sure. Miami is undefeated but they have not dominated a single team they have played, all their games go down to the wire and I would not say they are an elite football team, heck even Richt said that after their last win. But if ND beats them in Miami, it would be a solid victory.

The bottom line is ND lost to the best team they have played, which was UGA, at their own stadium. But if they go 11-1 it will certainly be hard to keep them out. UGA would need to lose by a td or less in a competitive SECCG to have any chance to get in ahead of them.
