The thing that seems insane to me is that Tennessee fans think that the 2013 Tennessee basketball team that featured Stokes, McRae, and Richardson was a failure for only reaching the sweet 16. Tennessee fans say this team had 3 NBA players so they should have achieved much more yet fail to mention that every single one of these players was absolute garbage in the NBA, averaging like 1.9 points per game. Most couldn’t tell you if any of them are still in the NBA.

I’m not a Cuonzo defender because he has underachieved with highly touted recruits, especially at Cal, but he’s not bad. He’s one of the better coaches in the SEC.

Imagine if I said that Frank Haith underachieved in 2012 when he had Phil Pressey, Jordan Clarkson, and Jabari Brown, who all were in the NBA by reaching the sweet 16. People would call me insane.

Cuonzo was very underwhelming at Tennessee. I went to almost every home game and many trips on the road to see his teams play. He was very close to missing the tournament all 3 years with that Maymon/Stokes/Golden/McRae/Richardson core and advanced to the Sweet 16 by winning a play in game that they never should have had to play before beating maybe the worst 6 seed in modern tournament history (UMass) and a 14 seed in Mercer.
