Last time he was the "hot guy", Dak left and his star diminished. Now he's the hot commodity again.

If you're Mullen you can....
Stay at MSU. Career average 8-3. Make some noise every 4-5 years. Retire a millionaire and have the field named after you.

Or chase the big dream. And all of the inherent risk that comes with it.

I wouldn't be surprised either way. Bet the Gators wish they would've gone hard after him.

In any event, looking forward to Saturday. Should be a great game.

Wish he'd stay at MSU

I don't want him at a program that will easily attract the 4 and 5 star guys

Yeah, he will have a decision to make if they have a good overall season. He will likely get a call or two. Coaches at mid schools have to be very selective on timing, you might only get one shot to move to a bigger opportunity, and then it never comes along again.

Dan was always ridiculed for his incessant talk about championships and playing for championships.

In the last 2 years Mullen has emphasized the "relationship" part of coaching. How building relationships and watching young men grow and progress is more satisfying than winning. He even choked up talking to Tebow about that vey thing on SECN Saturday before the game.

So yeah, he gone.

What is A&M plan here? Are they going to pay him $9 million per year. Why would he leave a cow college for another cow college with aggressively homosexual undertones?

Mullen has been pretty consistent at MSU, and has been good for them. One of the best hires in the SEC other than Saban IMO during this decade. He has proven that he can develop a QB, and he works miracles with the recruits he gets. If he had the same resources as Bama, LSU, or even Auburn, MSU would be a national contender frequently. I don't think people give MSU and Mullen the respect they deserve. I know many MSU fans and have never heard them complain much about him. He can live a rich life in Starkvegas on the money he is paid.

You make that sound like it was a long time ago, but it was a one season gap.

Made big noise in 2014, good year in 2015. 2016 was bad but poised to make noise again in 2017. And 2014 - 2017 has been with two QBs nobody else wanted. He's since signed a 4* and has a commit from another 4* for 2018. MSU won't be sharing recruits with Ole Miss for the most part for the next couple of years. LSU, who typcially recruits MS well is in trouble.

Not to mention, the new MSU AD forked over the money to finally go out and hire a DC. What I see happening after this season is Mullen gets a raise no doubt, but more importantly we will see more money go into assistant coaches' salaries, which will be a big step for our program.

Or chase the big dream.

He's got the potential to capture the big dream where he is now. It's obviously a work in process and not built in a day, but he is moving the program that direction.

Me too.

Yeah, but what's the big dream? Did Richt achieve it at UGA? Is it a national championship? Les Miles won one. He was fired last year.

Gene Chizik won one. Say Chizik built had Iowa State into what Mississippi State is right now and was making $5 million a year, then was offered the Auburn job? Would leaving for Auburn, winning a NC, then being fired two years later be better than winning 7-10 games every year at Iowa State and still making $5 million a year?

How many "can't miss" coaching hires at bigger programs have missed? Nearly all of them.

Scary part is we only lose 4-5 starters total. Next year we should even be better.

How long will it be before Georgia fans start trying to fire Smart after he loses to Vandy and MsState? Immediately or will it take a little time to marinate in Dale's before you guys are ready to serve him a pink slip.

Plot twist. His star still isn't bright enough for an A&M offer. He's stuck at MSU several more years before he gets in trouble with the NCAA when they have an Ole Miss like year recruiting.
