No I mean poor for Alabama standards. Problem is poor at alabama gets your butt handed to you when you face elite offenses like OM can be, Clemson, USC and maybe even Penn State. The sec offenses or at least most of them don't concern me but even a team like LSU if we can't hit Etling and generate pressure with our front four either Etling will light us up because he has great receivers or Guice will run for over 100.

The other thing that concerns me about the defense is the missed tackles. Maybe it's just my perception, but we seem to have had more missed tackles in these first three games than we did all last year.

3rd down offense is related to OL playing like shite and us getting behind the chains in 3rd and 5+. Anyone will struggle when it's 3rd and long.

3rd down defense-no pass rush=can't get off the field. The come to Jesus meeting needs to start in the trenches. the back 7 hasn't played poorly in pass coverage. There's the usual gripes about finding the ball, but overall, they are doing their job. The DL is S H I T! We are getting NO pressure with the front 4, having to bring a 5th guy from somewhere to generate any heat. They are doing well stopping the run and stalemating the OL, but they are getting zero push into the backfield on passing downs. I was at the Fresno game and I thought we were playing mush rush as their passing game seemed predicated on quick throws. Now i'm not so sure they weren't just whipping our DL's sorry asses. Find somebody that wants to kill the QB.

The stats say what we really already knew: through 3 games, we look very MEH for Alabama. Still very good, but at this point in the year, not a final 4 team or if we made the playoffs, I'd predict one and done. There's work to do and the injury bug is visiting us this year, but we have the time and the people to improve the weaknesses and get into championship caliber. Let's get to work.
