It's not Gus' record against saban that is concerning. It's his record against LSU/UGA that is bothersome.
I agree. Also if we go against a good team it seems a very likely loss. And the only bowl win being Memphis doesn't help.

The fact is that Malzahn is one of the best coaches to ever coach at Auburn (statistical fact) and has done so when the SEC is the strongest it has ever been with the best coach in college history at our rival school.
Holy shite. I stopped reading there.
Malzahn is the laughing stock of college football right now. Auburn's offense (Malzahns specialty) looks inept every single time they go up against top talent.

You mean the one that had 11 sacks against Malzahns offense?

Head coaches get blame and credit for both sides of the ball.
Our problem in '14 was we had no defense. Who did the blame fall on? Malzahn. So now when the problem is fixed. You can't just give him zero credit for it.
He either gets zero blame and zero credit or some blame and some credit. You can't have it both ways.

Stupid post... Facts are what counts. If you want to say his SEC record is... 8-1, 4-4, 2-6 and 5-3 at least that is legit. 19 and 14... It also makes last year look better, but that would not fit your narrative. 2015 was a total screwup.

The guy that got fired.

I'll give him credit for finding a better DC and an uptick in defensive recruiting. As for in game performance, Gus gets no credit for what happened on the defensive side of the ball last Saturday against Clemson.
I am saying that the game was only an 8 point game because of the defense. If someone is going to sit here and argue that Gus is a good coach and we should step back from the ledge because we lost by 8 points, it's fair to argue why we only lost by 8 points. Gus and his offense had nothing to do with the score being as close as it was. We scored two fricking field goals. One was because of a Clemson turnover.

& Malzahn. Most of the blame from fans was directed towards Malzahn.

You're completely disregarding the fact that we lost by 8 even though the reason it was that close is in part due to Malzahn.

This is what reaching looks like.

Defense = the reason the game was close
Head Coach = at least some credit for defensive performance
Both of the things above we have established as true. So how exactly is it a reach? I'm not saying to sing his praises from the rooftops. I'm saying you can't completely disregard it.
I'm just going to assume you missed the "in part".

I'm not. I gave him credit on the DC hire and recruiting. I'm also not going to sit here and pretend that Saturday night was a successful performance for Gus Malzahn as Auburn's head coach because we only lost by 8. He is an offensive coach. If the score was 35-27, 42-34, even 24-16 one could make that argument. We scored 2 field goals. We had 117 yards on offense. Asking people to not be upset at Gus Malzahn or accusing them of going "Full retard" because we only lost by 8 is absurd.

No one asked you to not be upset at Gus. He said the board has gone full retard (Which it has). There's a difference between not being happy with Malzahn and the state this board is in right now.

I guess I don't consider people not want to keep a head coach making 4 million a year, who gives you no shot at beating the top teams as going full retard.

Well I think most of this stems from the OP which is clearly someone going full retard

And now we're back to losing by 8 to a top 5 defending national champion.
I'm not happy with Gus but I'm also not sure a constant coaching carousel is the right answer to fixing it

I just doubt Clemson is that good to be honest. We were more than capable of beating that team with a moderate offense. The same shite we saw last Saturday was almost the same we saw again GSU(except that was a shitty shitty team). 11 sacks allowed is pretty much unacceptable to me.

We were never a threat in that game.

I agree, which is why it'd be ideal if Gus would suddenly lose the stubborn narcissism overnight. But he very likely won't, and it will continue to be a drag on this program.
If we go 8-4 this year or worse, that is 4 years of total mediocrity in a row. For a solid stretch, it seemed Auburn was a very dangerous team in big games. We're going on 4 seasons now without a win in a truly major game (despite playing 2-3 a year).
Now if we lose 3 games but win in Baton Rouge and beat Alabama or Georgia and play our remaining rivals close, I'm of the mind that we don't don't make a change. I don't mind growing pains, even if that includes losing to shittier teams, if nobody wants to play us by the end of the year.
But more likely, we'll get solidly beaten by 2/3, and eek out a win against whichever one turns out to be an 8-4 type of team. We'll stumble into a bowl game lacking clarity about what this team is about. And Gus will be retained.

We lead for almost a half and were one score away from tying it the whole second half. But yeah 0% chance to win.
Roberts almost busted one to tie it.

I wouldn't have liked our chances of converting a PAT from the 3 yard line, given our proven history of struggles in that area.
