Things Dodd is claiming in this one article:

1. Leo Lewis and Ricky Seals-Jones were both offered in excess of half a million dollars to play college football.
2. Both Leo Lewis and Ricky Seals-Jones (and/or their families/handlers) turned down that much money.
3. Coaches gather boosters and tell them what games to bet on during the season to finance their 'recruiting budget'.

ok, Dodd.

Top level recruits get paid. Not nearly in the amounts he's claiming here. And definitely not via the avenue he outlined.

And the Leo Lewis situation of allegedly getting paid by multiple schools is MUCH more common than some of these talking heads pretend. In fact, that's actually how it does work. You toss a little money around to guys you know aren't going to come to your school. Most schools have certain territories "covered" by certain "bag men", and it's usually a steady stream of smaller payments over the course of their entire recruitment. I highly doubt anyone is cutting 6-figure checks to a recruit's family these days.
