#15 Total Defense at a school with the #128 Rush Offense.

All three of their losses were due to the offense failing and turning the ball over.

Texags (not staff) claiming Jim Turner has been retained

So that would wrap up the Offense. Would still need a LB coach and then you probably don't add DT until Jan. 8 when you get the 10th assistant spot openned up.

BL saying Brewster is likely, TP is being retained and the DC hire has been all but made. He said the DC hire was a "significant get" with ties to Jimbo

I still want to believe it's Robinson. I think he's the next elite coordinator.

But there continues to be this rumor that our new DC is coaching in the playoff. That basically leaves, based on the other know factors, the following:

Mel Tucker - Georgia DC
Brent Venables - Clemson DC
Derrick Ansley - Alabama DB coach

Yep, he referenced that the DC may need to finish a playoff or high up bowl game

So which ones have ties to Jumbo that are still going? Who is Robinson with and what makes him the next big one? Honest question don't know anything about him.

Mel Tucker is the only one other than Venables. Venables makes too much to be whipped over I think, but Mel Tucker is ripe for a raise he only makes 850 if I recall.

Tucker, Grinch, and Robinson have been the names I've heard the most. I really like all three but Tucker and Robinson seem to have more southern ties than Grinch.

Where's the Grinch stuff coming from? I don't see a connection with JF.

Based on what evidence? In 2016, he had the #66 best total defense and in 2017 it only improved to #51.

What an I missing here? What makes him so special? The dude has shown to be mediocre.

Yeah, but he did it against the SEC East + Mazzone.

Not impressive.

The talent is lacking, but he has always fielded a defense that was better than you would expect in my opinion. At the end of the day, that's what I want. A coordinator who can recruit and has the intangibles to motivate his players to exceed expectations (or exceed their own abilities).

I get what you're saying, but they do play Clemson every year. So this year they played two playoff teams. Not a whole lot of folks can say that outside of Auburn, Florida State, etc.

in his 4 years at florida while coaching the secondary, UF ranked the following in pass defense:

2011: 8th
2012: 21st
2013: 3rd
2014: 8th

jimbo likes to build his defense from the back end, this seems like a pretty freaking solid hire.

Yes that is critical. Jimbo's DC is going to coach defensive backs. This is a Saban school of thought and ever Saban assiastant has followed it when they went out of their own. Kirby does it, Jimbo does it, and Muschamp played DB and was a DB coach prior to coordinator.

On the defensive side of the ball, I don't think that's possible.

With defensive, you are what your talent is.

Poor DCs fail to get their talent to perform up to what they're capable of. Good DCs get performance equal to their talent level.

But you can't scheme your way to over performing your talent level like you can on offense.
