They spread the field, at least alluding to the possibility of the pass. That forced BYU to keep six in the box instead of eight. Why throw if they've only got six in the box? Occasionally, LSU also threw on first down, and Etling had a high completion percentage because he wasn't asked only to throw on third-and-long.

Also, I'm sure LSU didn't empty the playbook to give the rest of the SEC tape for the rest of the season. Why do more in Week 1 than what you need to do to win?

Had LSU not self-destructed with some penalties, especially in the red zone, the Tigers win by 45. Had Miles been coaching, it would have been a 10-point win with the game in doubt until the last five minutes.
