My dad would be in jail

I volunteer in a prison ministry and I met a guy a few years ago that was doing life because he killed the guy that raped his teenage daughter. I don't have daughters but I can completely understand the rage.

This is offtopic, but that doesn't warrant life in prison, imo. At least if it can be proven the murder victim was the rapist. If we go by the concept of social contract doctrine, the state failed to protect his daughter from something extraordinarily evil. In the eyes of this father, he has little reason to respect his victim's right to life. I do think he deserved a prison sentence, as we can't have people taking the administration of justice into their own hands, but to sentence him to life in prison insinuates that what he did is just as immoral as the worst the world has to offer, and I don't think I want to buy into that.

I have no doubt that is what he told you, I have many doubts that is the whole story.
