I don't know why bear died but Auburn winning the title in 57' was why he was hired in 58' and auburn breaking off 5 wins in a row vs bama in 2006 was the reason saban was hired. Thank Auburn for both

so a 2-7-1 record in '57 didn't have anything to do with it , huh?

There is truth in that post. Even With all the BS in this thread and that passes between Bama and Auburn as Rivals, I have to admit the truth. I remember telling an aubie friend of mine during the tuberville run, that auburn has 2 other streaks like and both ended up with Bama winning a national championship in a few year. The late 50's which was followed by Bryant's 1st championship in 61. Dye ripping off 4 in a row from 86-89 which was followed by Stallings 92 championshiip. I told him I'm 06 that Alabama would likely have a national championship in the next 4 years. And now the tubby 6 game streak which was followed by Saban.
