hmmmm. Prewett listed as starter at LB. Two walk ons top of the list on the O line. What's up with Bailey? Nowhere on the 2 deep. Durant appears to be impressing the coaches.
Eager to see how all the incoming juco players on the D-line affect this depth chart.
Eager to see if Brown can play his way back into the 2 deep at WR.
Hope Howard can emerge from his legal issues to have a shot at challenging for playing time at DE.

if i remember this time last year, it seems BO likes to get these guys that should be obvious to get riled up to "earn" their spot back. good motivation i suppose, but this will not b the opening day depth chart.

Dubinski started vs UT and Arkansas last year and played significant reps vs SC and Vandy. I liked he and Ploudre's timing during the spring game as well. Castillo and Simms are going to have to dominate to reach the top of the chart.
Blanton and Reese are going to be important pieces this year.

Perkins is a better tackler than Hilton and it isn't close. Nate Anderson will factor into things at LDE, especially if Howard isn't allowed to plea down.

I'd actually like to see Perkins and Hilton on the field at the same time. Perkins as you say is a very sure tackler. Hilton is a playmaker on the backend.
Really hoping Howard can somehow avoid getting kicked off the team. I think he was poised to have a breakout year.
Hoping they let Wilson be the backup and get some series in some games. He's the future IMO.
Dubinski and Ploudre were both starting by the end of last year, so no surprise they are there again.
Excited to see the two long sophomores starting at CB. Their development could be the biggest factor on this defense. That and finding some DE depth.

Nothing against Hilton, but I really like Perkins starting over him. Especially since we are going after his brother in recruiting.

Yeah, I'd actually like to see Perkins starting at SS and Hilton at FS.
I know I'm in the minority but I really like Hilton. He's a gambler and I like that on the backend. Make plays. Takeaways are huge.
They ran with that setup a bit last year and I liked the result. Check the Georgia game (just don't watch the last play) Hilton was all over the field.

I know it's meaningless but get rid of the F'ing OR with Crockett and Witter. Just makes you look stupid IMO.

Maybe, maybe not with Hilton. Outstanding athlete but he was afraid of contact on the defensive side last year. Wonder if he wouldn't contribute more on the offensive side, though we're kinda deep it seems all of a sudden.

But Witter is a SR!!!
And he is the best blocking RB in the world!!!
Haven't you seen the stats?
And he runs for like 23 YPC!!!
Honest.

Yes, that's dumb. Witter improved quite a bit last year, but Crockett is the bell cow and everyone knows it

I actually really like Hilton too. He oozes athleticism and instincts but doesn't have a position. If he toughens up and isn't afraid to hit someone, I'd like to see him out there with Perkins too.

Seemed like toward the second half of the season they'd work Crockett until he was dead tired, then bring Witter in for a series. But typically one series would wear out Crockett. I'm hoping his conditioning is a little better and he can handle another series or two this season.
With the pace of Heupel offense, you need 2 or 3 #1 backs.

I don't know. I never saw DC look tired. He looks to be in even better shape this yr though

Touched upon a lot here, but I like the idea of Perkins and Hilton at both safety spots as well. Maybe Sherrils will surprise us and put that speed to use.
Curious how CB will play out. I like the idea of starting the bigger guys. Hope they can earn it. Suspect Cheadle may get a few "ceremonial" starts. Same with Wilson and Sherrils at S.
Think they will rotate just a couple of WR at the slot position? I think they will be running 3 or 4 through there on a regular basis. Curious if Brown will get even time at one of the outside positions.

Ya, Hilton has a chance to be an interception machine.

Hilton is going to be on the field a lot regardless of the depth chart. He and Perkins combined for 9.25 Tackles per game at FS the last month of the season.
Sherrils is the best option at SS on the team IMO. He didn't have a great year last year and his production dipped by 11 total tackles.
I think they will rotate a lot of bodies at the slot as well. When those guys are blocking their position they are taking on a guy that usually has a length and weight advantage.

Hilton did a better job of defending passes when they were in Read 2. After they went back to Tampa 2 he only got his hands on 3 passes. He had no defended passes the last month of the season.
