It cost Robert Bentley roughly 7.5 million to get elected governor in 2010 (the last time there wasn't an incumbent).
The 2018 election will cost a whole lot more.

You simply can't raise that kind of money without party resources behind them so unless it is someone with YellaFella type of money and they're willing to part with a lot of it, a serious independent run isn't going to happen.

Battle out of Huntsville is as close to that as you will get. There has not been a governor from the north end of the state since I can remember. As odd as it sounds he is far enough removed from the wheeling and dealing of the Gump to change the way things get done down there. At least I hope so.
