A pitcher like a football QB depends on others around him to make his stats look good, which in turn leads to team wins, i.e. receivers must make great catches, blocking the rusher and so on, you get the idea. Okay, baseball now. A pitcher has good stats because of great fielding and great hitting by his team much more often that a pitcher throwing nothing but strikeouts and over powering batter after batter. This is the general case over a season.
