Would you be OK with your university hiring a HC who quit there as a player?

If a guy played football one year at your school and couldn't hack it and quit, would you be comfortable hiring him as HC decades later?

Arkansas did. Houston Nutt transferred to Oklahoma State.

Then again, our last head coach that played for Auburn turned out to be pretty successful so who knows?

If he was a good HC then I wouldn't have an issue with it. People can change a lot from when they were in their late teens and early 20s.

I would be much more ok with hiring a HC who quit as a player, than a HC that quit on his players (looking at you Fran).

Of course. He may not be a good enough player to play at that level, but coaching is another animal. Not many of the top players are also top coaches.

Jalen Hurd is the only ex-Vol I know of who outright quit and short of a damn convincing reason and come to Jesus apology/explanation/begging for forgiveness/image rehab years ahead of time, the answer is: hell no.

yea, like it even matters. nick saban sucked as a player at Kent frickin' State. playing and coaching are not the same skill sets.
