Seriously though ... that's just sad and pathetic. I'm almost ashamed for the once proud Vol Nation that it now has so many fans making so many sad pathetic excuses for their dwindling football program.

Here's a fact.

Johnny Majors lost to SC and was fired that week.

Phat Phil Fulmer lost to SC and was fired that week.

Bitch Jones lost to SC and got a contract extension. <<<<< (That's what's known as the bottom line)

Explained: Tennessee used to have a superior program to not only South Carolina, but to just about every other program in the conference with the exception of Alabama.

Not anymore.

To further drive home the point, over the past ten years South Carolina has a better record than Tennessee. But so does Arkansas, Miss State, Alabama, Auburn, Texas A&M, Missouri, Georgia, LSU, and Florida.

Reality has set in for Vol Nation. Losing to South Carolina on a regular basis is something they have resigned themselves to having to live with. Matter of fact, the only thing most UT fans have left is living on their pre-'99 records ... the good ole days. And, fwiw, that's the year many of the current prospects out there were born.

Scary times for Vol Nation and it is not s stretch to say the SC game in Knoxville this year may be the most important game on the Vol's schedule ... because regardless of what else the Vols do, if they lose to mUSChamp and the Gamecocks again this season - well - that'll send a signal the Vols do not want sent. Or am I wrong?

Your absolutely must win game this year is vs The Gamecocks in Knoxville.

And here's the kicker. There is not a single conference gimme on your schedule, and you know it, if you are honest with yourselves.

All of this hammers home the current state of affairs in Vol Nation ... and it's illustrated daily right here on the SECr.

You have these huge, unrealistic high hopes during the off-season. For more than a decade now you've been the off-season champs every year. Only to have it all come crashing down, forcing you to resort to the "we used to be great, we have a winning record against you blah blah blah we're finally going to murder you again this year like our grandpappies used to do back in the good ole days," and so-on-and-so-forth yada yada yada.

As I stated when I began this book ... it's sad and pathetic, the excuses some of y'all have been programed to make for your program. What a shame. Oh how the mighty, the hubristic and egocentric, have fallen.
