expires in 2025 - right?
Deal was 15 years, signed in 2008 & started for the 2009-2010 season
so that means it expires after the 2024-2025 season
We have been hearing rumblings from Disney about frustration about ESPN's financial situation
Outside of a bankruptcy, is there anything the network could do to weasel out of all or part of their deal with the SEC?
If they actually do file bankruptcy, could Disney potentially be on the hook for the deal?
Anyway, I think it is very safe to say that the conference will not be able to renew with a deal that is anywhere near as lucrative as the one it has now
So, in 8 years, every school will likely be looking at smaller budgets for athletics
Time to start planning for that now..

The SEC Network has been perhaps its most profitable enterprise in the last 5 years.
ESPN's issue is a subscriber problem choosing al a carte channels.
There was literally a petition with people demanding the SECN in their area and cable system. It was described as the most successful launch in cable tv history.
Safe to say the SECN is insulated from the bloodbath going on today.

Seems like a bigger issue is their ridiculous NBA contract. When that gets renewed and player salaries get hit, you could see the mother of all work stoppages.
