Companies like ESPN overspent for rights, but didn't forsee people leaving cable. That's a huge loss of revenue.

For those claiming politics has nothing to do with ESPN's demise are being purposefully obtuse. Is the bulk of ESPN's predicament due to cord cutting and technological marketplace changes? Of course. But when your margins are already razor thin and shrinking; why alienate the majority of your viewership?
