I assume they thought they'd draw in the edgy angsty millennials with their liberal bias not cluing into them being broke and/or being smart enough to find their sports entertainment elsewhere.

I don't know that their politics has played that big of a role for ESPN's fall (i.e. the contracts with the leagues) but I think it's pretty stupid to assume it had no part in it.
