Forgive me if this has been posted but I didn't see a thread on it going back several pages.
I know this is more of a common theme nowadays but damn, how embarrassing.

Everyone who goes to a bowl gets a ring now.
Personally, I think it's lame. At least limit the participation rings to teams who won their game.

If you win a big bowl then that deserves a ring (Rose, Cotton, Fiesta, Orange, Sugar)
If you're a team that won a conference title and won a non-big bowl then a ring is acceptable.
Otherwise, a lot of material is being wasted on rings that don't serve any real accomplishment. Players will now pawn them for the $0.99 they are worth.

Who gives a shite. It's Kentucky, they hadn't even been to a bowl game in 6 years.

Schools have been getting bowl participation rings for several years now. I still have my bowl pendant (what the girls got) from a bowl game in the late 90s at another school. And they lost that bowl.
The only thing Kentucky did different was add the Governor's Cup to one side of the ring.
People just want to bitch to bitch.
ETA: For example, here's Ohio State's Gator Bowl participation ring from 2012 when they lost to Florida.

I have no problem with the bowl rings. It may not mean anything to you as a fan, but i would imagine it will hold meaning for many of the players as they age and look back at their college years. Especially those that do not play any more football after college.

We have to lower expectations for schools like uk so that they dont feel excluded. Its part of the pc world we live in unfortunately.
Theyll never amount to anything in fball anyway. No harm in throwing the conference joke some scraps

Conference or Natty only.
But if some of these dudes what to wear cracker jack rings around, I guess that's on them

quote:This. If a Kentucky player runs across a Clemson player, do they compare rings for this past season or does the Kentucky guy just say congratulations and keep his hands stuffed in his pockets?
Conference or Natty only.

Oklahoma was already the National Champion per the Associated Press and United Press in 1950. They proudly have national championship rings :)
