If they go with Tua knowing that's what they are getting then Jalen has really sputtered and we're in trouble

If Tua is better, how is it we're in trouble? That is, we won 14 games last year, and one second from a national title, with Hurts. The issues with the downfield passing game has been beaten to death, but if Tua is better at that, and Hurts is the 2nd string qb and hasn't regressed, which I am sure he has not, then it seems to me we'd be better that last year.

It is possible that we have another true freshman QB who defies the odds and helps us win. We already did it once, and the assumption would have to be that if Tua is playing he is even better than Hurts was last year. Maybe Tua brings the same ability with his legs that Hurts had (which is one of the areas where age doesn't matter) and is more advanced in the passing game in terms of reads, checks and deep throws.

I just, as a guy who pays too much attention to stats, analytics and odds, can't imagine that we play a true freshman QB in the SEC again and win a national championship. Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt it. And lets all be honest with ourselves, if we don't win a national championship the season isn't complete, regardless of how silly or crazy that sounds.

That doesn't mean Tua shouldn't play if he is better than Jalen is, he should. My overall point is to me, that is an issue in and of itself for the 2017 season. And we won't have one of the greatest defenses in college football history to shut down everyone outside of Clemson either.

Toward the end of last year the better defenses Bama faced seemed to figure out how to slow down Jalen's running and scrambling. Jalen never did reach the point where he was seeing the entire field in the passing game last year, and when he couldn't run and his passing was ineffective Bama's offense went stagnant.

Bottom line regarding the QB situation: Saban will play whomever protects the ball and gives Bama the best chance to win.
