Those are not playoffs that is a popularity contest
Playoffs are when you win your division and receive an automatic qualifier
Ohio State finished behind Penn State and lost to Penn State but because of their popularity received a spot in the college football playoffs

penn state had two losses, and they lost to a team OSU beat. lol you conveniently overlook that.
not taking conference champions is bit of an issue in the sense that those teams did not play in an additional game and have extra time to rest players.
